Journey Through Time
Welcome! Find out about the fascinating history of this family business from the German Sauerland. Discover the milestones that have marked the past 120 years here.
How it all began. SEVERIN's success can all be charted back to the dream of one man – Anton Severin. In 1892 the company's founder settled in the up-and-coming town of Sundern and established his own workshop: a small blacksmith's shop.
Expansion. The business expanded in 1921 when Anton Severin Jr joined the firm. The curtain rod business flourished. In 1922 the business moved to new premises in the Röhre district. And the number of employees tripled to 30.
Electronic appliances for Germany. Anton Severin Jr's son in law, Rudolf Schulte, and his brother-in-law, Helmut Hoffman, brought new ideas to the up-and-coming company. Both recognised the growing demand for electronic appliances – and launched promising production.
Investment. In 1956 SEVERIN began its next phase, both extending production significantly and expanding the business. This also included significant investment in the equipment on site. The Sundern firm now employed a staff of approx. 100 and manufactured electrical appliances for the entire German market.
75 years of quality production. In 1967 SEVERIN and its 400+ employees celebrated the firm's 75th anniversary. This was followed by further expansion for the firm, highlights of which included construction of a new administrative building and new warehouses.
Innovations. Thanks to technical innovations, SEVERIN was able to begin sophisticated production of semi-finished plastic parts for manufacture. A premiere SEVERIN was the first company in Germany to use fully-automatic material loading – from the central raw materials warehouse to the injection moulding machines.
Better working conditions. In 1985 SEVERIN put a new, modern assembly hall into operation – a generously proportioned and well-lit working environment. In the same year, an automatic packaging line arrived in the Wenholthausen factory. The administrative side of the business was also expanded and modernised in terms of IT.
Major anniversary. in 1992 SEVERIN and its 600+ employees celebrated the company's 100th anniversary. Special guest of honour, former Chancellor Dr Helmut Kohl, made a speech at the reception to celebrate the company's anniversary.
Expansion. SEVERIN's market strategy pays dividends. More and more customers started to choose high-quality products which represent excellent value for money. This led to investment in, and expansion of, the Sundern site in 1996 in the form of a building complex on a site of over 20,000m2.
Growth market China. After opening a new production facility in Shenzhen (China) in 1995, SEVERIN received a trading licence to supply to the domestic market in the People's Republic of China in 1997 – one of the first medium-sized German companies in the electrical appliances segment to do so.
International success. SEVERIN Italia s.r.l. became the company's fifth subsidiary in Europe – following France, Sweden, the Netherlands and Spain. This, in conjunction with reliable professional sales partners, allowed SEVERIN to supply electronic appliances to over 70 countries.
New high bay warehouse. In 2005 SEVERIN headquarters in Sundern were given a brand new feature – a new high bay warehouse measuring 107m long by 52m wide and 30m high. Approx 3,500m3 of concrete and 1,500 tonnes of steel were used in construction. The warehouse can store over 36,000 pallets over 13 levels.
Emerging market Poland. SEVERIN strengthened its presence in Eastern Europe. The establishment of SEVERIN Polska in Warsaw is the sixth international subsidiary. The new company is intended to supply the Polish market.
Production expansion. SEVERIN has become a global success – and the sales figures of high-quality electrical appliances with a good price-performance ratio continue to rise. In order to better respond to demand, SEVERIN has expanded its production capabilities at the Shenzhen site by 21,000m2.
Relaunch. With a fresh new corporate design, a completely overhauled website and an updated product portfolio, everything at SEVERIN points towards continued growth. SEVERIN's position in 2011 is confident, straight-forward and clear – "Welcome home"!
SEVERIN made its fifth appearance at the IFA trade fair in Berlin. The crowd-puller was the PICCOLA, a fully automatic coffee machine which was given its premiere here. The SEVERIN PICCOLA is one of the most compact and attractively-priced fully automatic coffee machines with one-touch technology on the market. In total, SEVERIN showed the visitors to its stand more than 40 new products, from fully automatic coffee machines to electric grills to smoothie makers and party cookers.
